Tengchong, a bright pearl inlaid in the southwestern side of the motherland, is located in the western part of Yunnan where volcanoes and geothermy co-exist and form a large-scale and unique natural spectacle. A famous poet Li Wei praised Tengchong that “ it is a place filled with 90 volcanoes as well as 90 times of intensity, flowing with 80 hot springs as well as 80 times of enthusiasm”. Many famous tourism attractions in Tengchong such as Shenzhu Valley, Beihai Wetland, and Dieshuihe Waterfall are all products of volcanic activities. It is a home of 25 ethnic groups such as Han, Hui, Dai, Lisu and Achang and other minority people. Tengchong experiences a tropical monsoon climate, integrating the advantages of continental climate and maritime climate; winters and springs are warm and sunny, whereas summers and autumns are rainy and sunny in turns, making the whole climate mild and pleasant. The annual mean precipitation is 1531 mm, while the annual average relative humidity is 77%. The minimum temperature in winter is not lower than 0 °C, and the highest temperature in summer does not exceed 30 °C, thus making Tengchong being rated as “one of the most suitable places for human to live”. The air quality within Tengchong is high, which is characterized in that the average content of negative oxygen ions is 3827 per cubic centimeter, up to more than 38,000, and the PM 2.5 is less than 10, thus being well-known as a “Natural Oxygen Bar”.
