Tengchong Beihai Wetland is rich in biodiversity. A total of 159 species of wetland vascular plants, which belongs to 52 families and 122 genera, can be collected. There are 130 species of hygrophytes, including Brasenia schreberi, a national first-level protected plant, and Trapa incisa, Spiranthes sinensis, Habenaria dentata, wild buckwheat, Ottelia acuminata, which are national second-level protected plants; 125 species of 32 families and 15 orders of birds are recorded, including 51 species of 16 species and 9 orders of wetland birds, 3 species of animals under national first-level protection,14 species of animals under national second-level protection, and 6 species of protected species are listed in Appendix IIof Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES); 40 species of amphibians and reptiles; and 13 species of fish.
