News of China Network on May 15 (Reporter:Tang Jialei) 12.5 kilometers away from the northwest Tengchong County, there is a floating grassland, namely Beihai Wetland, which is the only national wetland reserve in Yunnan Province. A few days ago, the reporter set foot on this magical place, and personally experienced the “traveling in a pictorial world”.

It is understood that the Beihai Wetland is one of the 33 national key protected wetlands in China first published, formed by Cenozoic volcanic eruptions and belongs to the plateau volcanic barrier lake ecosystem, which features complex biodiversity and extremely high productivity. The wonder "floating grassland" is the result of ash flow, the ash from volcanic eruption floating on the lake and its rich organic matters provide a mechanism for vegetation formation and promote the growth of herbaceous mire plants. Their roots, which have been concatenated over thousands of years, are about a meter to two meters thick and are called "grass row" by locals. The thickness of the grass row and depth of lake are rare in China, and its unique natural ecological system of plateau wetland is of great scientific research value.

The vast herbaceous marshes just like vast grasslands floating on the water if overlooked. All the flowers are in full bloom in the grass row, and they seem to be a giant carpet of multicolored flowers from a distance. The reporter visited the wetland in a boat, with pieces of "grass row" floating on the water, or stretching into a piece of prairie to the foot of the mountain, or forming small grass islands in the middle of the water, and the plant roots are clearly visible in the clear water. As the boat passed, the egrets suddenly flied from the grass, chirping a few times, and then prostrated themselves into the surrounding "grass row". The wild ducks were also exciting; some of them disappeared on the water, and then came out on the water not far away...

The grass row swaying with the wind on the surface of the water was fascinating, and made us want to stand on it. According to the staff, the larger grass row is able to bear the weight of a people, and the former villagers can cross through both sides of the river on the grass row. While once people step on the grass row, he may feel shaking and sinking, the water immediately rush in from the surrounding, as you move towards, the grass row is slowly floating up to the original state.

During the visit, the reporter learned that in recent years, the local government has paid great attention to the protection of Beihai Wetland, and the ecological environment of the wetland has been further protected and improved. Also, afforestation, protection of natural forests, conversion of farmland to forests, and revert cultivated land to wetland are welcomed by the local people, forming a harmonious atmosphere between human and nature.
