Recently, Yu Qiuyu, a well-known writer in China, visited Tengchong County. After exploreing many famous scenic spots there, Yu Qiuyu showed great interest in Tengchong's rich culture. He made a comprehensive comment on Tengchong’s ecological culture, tourism culture, anti-Japanese war culture andjadeite culture from the aspects of history, humanities, and aesthetics, etc.

Yu Qiuyu, born on August 23, 1946 in Yuyao County, Zhejiang Province, is a famous Chinese cultural scholar, theorist, cultural historian and essayist.

“I have gone all over the world, but Tengchong still surprises me greatly,” Yu said. “It’s the first time I have been here, but I have gained a good knowledge of this place, first, from its bidding for The Most Charming Town in China, and later from reading materials about it. So upon arrival, I just feel like I revisit an old place, also find something unexpected in here.” Yu blamed that some scenic areas were piling up too much “historical rubbish” but in Tengchong, the local culture was presented and promoted in a moderate way. He thought it was gratifying to see that by perfectly combining the text culture with ecological culture, Tengchong had shaped its unique way with characteristics.

Tengchong’s greatest advantage lies in its beautiful ecological environment, and brilliant job has been done in ecological protection. Its ecological advantage was, is and will be the most attractive aspect. Meanwhile, the lifestyle in line with the international standards should be adopted for meeting people’s needs of leisure and vacation, thus enabling Tengchong to be a holiday paradise for more tourists.

        1. Particular Ecological Environment: A Natural Oxygen Bar

Tengchong is surrounded by mountains and located in the plateau. Luxuriant and green vegetation can be commonly found everywhere in this place. Gaoligong Mountain, which is praised as the “A Gene Bank of World Species” by UNESCO, is located here. Diancai Tengchong Magic Wetland, another national key wetland has developed into a famous scenic spot . 

The water of the wetland scenic area is pure and clear and its depth of bottom can not be measured. The wetland is virtually a peaceful aquatic grassland with good ecosystem, and it is also a source of water for a beautiful river --- Daying River.

2. Well-know Tengchong Volcano Hot Spring  

The Tengchong volcano is accompanied by geothermal heating, producing hot springs everywhere in accordance with the taste of modern people in pursuit of game-like health care program. The volcano can also satisfy people’s appetite to explore the mysteries of nature. Diancai Tengchong Magic Wetland is “the only floating carpet-shape wetland located around subtropical volcanic crater in China” formed by volcanic activity. Surrounded by mountains, the Magic Wetland is the location of one of the twelve ancient scenic volcano wonders “Longsong Mountain Shrouded in Cloud and Mist”. The wetland is virtually Tengchong’s “lung”: whenever the south wind blows, the fresh air purified by the wetland will flow to Tengchong along with the valley, and then is wrapped in the surrounding mountains, thus forming an oxygen bar.

    3. Tengchong Anti-Japanese War Culture

        The older generation always visit the National Martyrdom Cemetery of Tengchong for mourning for former loyal martyrs who died in the anti-Japanese war in Western Yunnan or people who had helped them. Yu Qiuyu has commented that Tengchong’s anti-Japanese culture is full of touching stories.
