Tengchong is one of three geothermal areas in China, and its high geothermal temperature, abundant steam and intense hydrothermal activity are rare in the country. 88 groups boiling spring, gas spring, fountain and hot spring are found in the town, all with emergence of hot water and gas. Rehai Geothermal Field, at the heat center of the geothermal area, is referred to “a deep, wide sea of hot spring”. With best landscape and highest water temperature and emergence quantity in the county, Rehai is also one of the most attractive views in national-level geothermal volcanic scenic areas.
Lying 10.5km south of Tengchong County and covering a total area of 8km2, Rehai Geothermal Field is circled by green bamboos, and Zaotang River winds through it along the slop of the hills, forming 3-dimensional structures and well-arranged views. Rehai presents beautiful views of fumarole, steaming terrestrial heat, hot boiling spring, fountain, hot sinter, hot spray explosion and toxic air vent. Dragons pursuing balls, drumming spring, pearl spring, glasses spring, pregnant wells, bath pond for the immortals, geothermal blessed land, lions' land, toad's mouth, Zaotang River Waterfall and bird well etc. present various postures and amazing forms. Boiling pot, in particular, is highly attractive and presents a rare magnificence.

Boiling pot spring, located at the semi slope in northeast, is a main attraction of Rehai. The φ6.12m round spring is encircled by 8 arc stone plates engraved with Tai Ji diagrams, with a depth of 1.5m, water temperature of 96.6℃and water inflow of 0.94L/S. The boiling spring gushes out, the spray whirls around, the water rumbles, the steam rises up to the sky, creating a spectacular cloudy and misty realm. The slightly alkaline water of the spring looks clear and transparent, tastes smooth but not greasy, and contains multiple trace elements that are beneficial to human health.
Rice and eggs cooked with the natural spring here taste fragrant and delicious.
Also called bath pond of the immortals, the beauty pond lies at the left of Zaotang River, Rehai, with water temperature of 45℃and flow of 3.2L/S. The water is crystal clear, the bottom is visible, while the lateral stonewall of the pond presents dynamic wave. What a picturesque and mysterious underwater world. The warm water mainly comes from the pearl spring, drumming spring, glasses spring, pregnant wells. The spring flows down along the rock and forms various sizes of hot waterfalls, and together with the hot spring in the pond, present a feast for the eyes.
The Glasses Spring lies at the right bank of Zaotang River and the lower end of Pearl Spring, 1,460 above sea level, with water temperature of 94℃ and flow of 0.7L/S. It is named so because the two spring eyes are arranged in parallel, resembling a pair of glasses, and is also called “spring of sisters”, for the two jets of crystal water move like the dancing shoulder to shoulder of two sisters.
Drumming spring lies at the right bank of Zaotang River, Rehai, 1,460m above sea level, with water temperature of 94.8℃. It is named so because the steam is blocked by a huge rock, hence the slightly alkaline boiling water emerges rumbling like drum beating.
The pearl spring at the west of Zaotang River, Rehai takes a form of fan (arc length: 4.5m, width: 2m), with water temperature of 92.5℃and flow of 0.2L/S. Boiling water gushes out from the hundreds of pits formed by the fumaroles, resembling in the sunlight colorful strings of beads or pearls spatted out.
Pregnant wells were built with 12 stone plates carved with 12 zodiac animals at the right bank of Zaotang River, Rehai, and the water, about 88℃ in temperature, gushes out of the ground at a speed of 0.02L/S. The water in the wells is praised as “magic recipe”, for it is rich in trace elements, and can regulate the nervous system, promote the metabolism, expand the blood vessels, and regulate endocrine, to name just a few.
A river flows through the Rehai valley from east to west, and fuses with the heat on the riverbed. It is thus named Zaotang (public bath) River because people can throughout the year and some often take a bath in the whole-length hot water.
